Night Bar

Night Bar
New Night Bar
It's become quiet on Blowroad, lately. Penthouse hotel and condominiums are about to be finished and rainy season takes it's toll on tourist arrivals. Additionally, expats and retirees tend to omit the old Balibago tourist district. They prefer hangouts on Perimeter Road and in proximity of Friendship. New Night Bar is the replacement for Gobbles Bar that was closed last year.

Hope in Heaven Film

Hope in Heaven Bar
Hope in Heaven, by filmmaker Meredith Ralston, examines the country's sex trade and the young women it traps.
Film makers tend to present drama. They did a fine job when creating a documentary about prostitutes from the old Heaven Bar on Blowroad. Narrated by Hollywood-Star Kiefer Sutherland and presented by an Canadian ex-prostitute Hope in Heaven shows horrible sanitary conditions from 2007 and 2008 in this establishment and raises awareness of many problems. While in theory they are building a case that is worth fighting for, they omit many facts that would destroy their drama.

Black Pearl

Shadows Bar
Black Pearl bar is on the right side of Shadows and opposite of Wild orchid Resort. It's a rather small place.
One of the lesser known bars is Black Pearl. Just recently I was reminded about this place, because I think the father of Dennis Rodman hangs out here from time to time. Rodman who operates Rodman’s Rainbow Obamaburger in Angeles City has been seen drinking with friends here at Black Pearl bar. The Filipino bar employs friendly hostesses and is equipped with old pool tables. Pretty cheap to spend a couple of hours chillin' and watching bypassers.

Party Animal = Barfine

partyanimal barfine
There is this saying Only in the Philippines. It's used whenever foreigner don't understand why Filipinos do things the way they do. One of those why-questions might me on Angeles City tourists' lips these days when they want to pay a barfine for a bargirl in bars along Fields Avenue. "Sorry Sir, no more barfine available." "Why?" "You can pay for party animal, same - same!". Okay, it buys a large bottle of coconut wine, but you can't take it out of the bar. However, the Pinay bargirl of your choice is free to leave the bar with her customer.

Up to You Lounge

up to you
Recently, I emntioned a Santos Street bar: Honky Tonk opposite of Wild Orchid Resort. The bar has been closed in November 2011 for a few days and reopened under a new name: Up to You Lounge. It looks pretty much like before. Cheap drinks and a couple of friendly hostesses who are available for company. Unlike before they are not employees of the bar, but freelancers who work on their own behalf.

Road Construction

Kokomoz no parking
Road construction at night

As of March 2012 Angeles City and Barangay Balibago governments are conducting road construction on the corner of Fields Avenue and Santos Street. It's possibly a bad idea to try passing this bottle neck by vehicles this day to reach your Santos Street condominium, hotel or blow road bar at night time as it's closed. It's a pretty nice shot I captured from this non-parking sign in front of Kokomoz Restaurant and One Eyed Wench bar.

Gobbles

Gobbles
One of the few mini bars on Santos Street: Goobles bar. It has a couple of GROs waiting for guests.
Another establishment on Blowroad Santos Street that has been closed down late 2011 for qualified trafficking. Recently, before the closure, Gobbles bar has been refurbished and renovated to attract customers from new Penthouse Hotel and Wild Orchid Resort. It was a small bar with round the clock operation and very friendly staff. Prices were very reasonable, but their rooms rather small and a certain stint. The open area bar had a very comfortable new sofa.

Honky Tonk Bar

Waitress GRO
Two waitresses from Honky Tonk bar. The Filipina hostesses from this bar are fairly attractive and have good people skills. Very friendly and easy going place for laid back visitors who enjoy cheap drinks.
Straight across the street from luxury hotel 'Wild Orchid Resort' there was used to be a Santos Street watering hole: Honky Tonk Bar. It had the cheapest drinks in town. A couple of easy to get along with women would site around and ask for ladydrinks. Once agreed they were willing to engage in guest relation services. Fort a small fee, rooms were for rent. However, Honky Tonk Bar was closed late 2011. It re-opened under the name Up-to-You Bar just a few days later. Same staff and prices, even same Blow Road furniture. Review will follow soon.

Kokomoz

Kokomoz retaurant
Kokomoz restaurant and 24h hangout
Few years back there were just 2 large 24h restaurants on Fields Avenue: Margarita Ville and Kokomoz. They are both still in business althought many things around them have changed. Originally, founded by Canadian Dave Fischer, Kokomoz has become a very popular hangout by local and internet marketing. It hosted many parties and infamous wet-t-shirt contests in the past. Today, it's more of a hangout on the corner of Fields and Santos Street. Their cuisine is not the number one in town, but their snacks like Fried Potatoes and French Fries are delicious and prices are ok.

Rhapsody Bar

Rhapsody Bar Angeles City
While it's located on Santos Street, it's not a classic Blowroad bar, but more one of the glamor bars from Fields Avenue. The manager of this bar has been involved in many charity events giving underprivileged kids and people a new perspective and management has always been active in providing eduction to their staff about STDs. As for party people it's a place that is miss or hit. Some days it's hot, other days it's like a lake with dead fish.

Shadows Bar

Shadows Bar
Popular hangout for frugal Johns and late night punters. Minibar Shadows is open 24 hours and positioned close to the Wild Orchid Resort and next to Honky Tonk and Black Pearl bars. The venue was recently renovated. It's a small bar with public area to meet local sex workers. The back of the building hosts 3 or 4 rooms for short time activities where visitors can spend time with their local talent. Drinks for customers and ladies are the cheapest in town, hardly more expensive than in a grocery store. Rooms are very small and basic, very dark and fixed electric ventilators with semi privacy. You need to be a hard-balled monger to take one of the girls to a room for around 700 Piso short time (up to 3 hours). But a lot of guys go here for the cheap price. Once I asked a popular and attractive Filipina sex worker from Shadows bar about her average number of customers per day and she answered: 4. Bring your own condoms to practice safe sex.

Fields Avenue: Angeles City Adult Tourist RLD

Club Atlantis
Night time on Field's Avenue around Club Atlantis
While Santos Street has it's fans the main drag of Angeles City's tourist entertainment district is Fields Avenue. Formerly named Clark Field Avenue during times when nearby Clark Field was an US-American airbase this strip started to become one of the largest red-light and adult entertainment venue for foreigners in the Philippines. Together with internet reports on newsgroups like alt.sex.prostitution and the World Sex Guide on Paranoia host. Angeles City's Fields Avenue quickly became very popular in the late 1990ies. It's probably the first red-light district in the World that has founded it's existence and growth by ...

Perimeter Road

Perimeter Road
Certainly, Perimeter Road is lesser known as an entertainment area than Fields and Blow Road A. Santos. This long stretch of asphalt from Checkpoint to Friendship gate hosts many bars with cheap drinks and easy women. Everything is cheaper as it's geared for local expats who are living off of pensions, military benefits or social welfare rather then big spenders who have made millions on the Makati stock exchange. At a later time I will write an article about hangouts like Candy Bar, Det5, Lost in Asia and Roadies. For now, a pic to get you into the mood for and afternoon barhop.

Where to find Santos Street

Walking Street Angeles
Entrance to tourist enetertainment district of Angeles City from Santos Street. At night time it is closed for traffic. There is just a small trike station beside Rhapsody and Mo's Place (Kokomos).

A. Santos Street is located in Angeles City, Philippines. It is part of barangay (suburb) Balibago. It's a t-head street ending at Field's Avenue inside Angeles' tourist entertainment district known for bars like Lancelot, Welcome Inn, Rhapsody and Treasure Island. Due to it's proximity to Fields Avenue, life on A. Santos Street is dominated by hotels, restaurants and bars. Hotels like Swiss Chalet, Bourbon Street Apartments and The Wild Orchid are located on this strip. There are various apartments and boarding houses located on Santos Street as well.
Santos Street is also called Blow Road due to prostitution activities inside mini bars located between Wild Orchid Resort and corner of Real Street. Prostitutes working in these bars are said to perform oral sex while normal Filipina women working out of Fields Avenue bars frown upon delivering such services even after being barfined.
