Party Animal = Barfine

partyanimal barfine
There is this saying Only in the Philippines. It's used whenever foreigner don't understand why Filipinos do things the way they do. One of those why-questions might me on Angeles City tourists' lips these days when they want to pay a barfine for a bargirl in bars along Fields Avenue. "Sorry Sir, no more barfine available." "Why?" "You can pay for party animal, same - same!". Okay, it buys a large bottle of coconut wine, but you can't take it out of the bar. However, the Pinay bargirl of your choice is free to leave the bar with her customer.

Up to You Lounge

up to you
Recently, I emntioned a Santos Street bar: Honky Tonk opposite of Wild Orchid Resort. The bar has been closed in November 2011 for a few days and reopened under a new name: Up to You Lounge. It looks pretty much like before. Cheap drinks and a couple of friendly hostesses who are available for company. Unlike before they are not employees of the bar, but freelancers who work on their own behalf.

Road Construction

Kokomoz no parking
Road construction at night

As of March 2012 Angeles City and Barangay Balibago governments are conducting road construction on the corner of Fields Avenue and Santos Street. It's possibly a bad idea to try passing this bottle neck by vehicles this day to reach your Santos Street condominium, hotel or blow road bar at night time as it's closed. It's a pretty nice shot I captured from this non-parking sign in front of Kokomoz Restaurant and One Eyed Wench bar.

Gobbles

Gobbles
One of the few mini bars on Santos Street: Goobles bar. It has a couple of GROs waiting for guests.
Another establishment on Blowroad Santos Street that has been closed down late 2011 for qualified trafficking. Recently, before the closure, Gobbles bar has been refurbished and renovated to attract customers from new Penthouse Hotel and Wild Orchid Resort. It was a small bar with round the clock operation and very friendly staff. Prices were very reasonable, but their rooms rather small and a certain stint. The open area bar had a very comfortable new sofa.

Honky Tonk Bar

Waitress GRO
Two waitresses from Honky Tonk bar. The Filipina hostesses from this bar are fairly attractive and have good people skills. Very friendly and easy going place for laid back visitors who enjoy cheap drinks.
Straight across the street from luxury hotel 'Wild Orchid Resort' there was used to be a Santos Street watering hole: Honky Tonk Bar. It had the cheapest drinks in town. A couple of easy to get along with women would site around and ask for ladydrinks. Once agreed they were willing to engage in guest relation services. Fort a small fee, rooms were for rent. However, Honky Tonk Bar was closed late 2011. It re-opened under the name Up-to-You Bar just a few days later. Same staff and prices, even same Blow Road furniture. Review will follow soon.

Kokomoz

Kokomoz retaurant
Kokomoz restaurant and 24h hangout
Few years back there were just 2 large 24h restaurants on Fields Avenue: Margarita Ville and Kokomoz. They are both still in business althought many things around them have changed. Originally, founded by Canadian Dave Fischer, Kokomoz has become a very popular hangout by local and internet marketing. It hosted many parties and infamous wet-t-shirt contests in the past. Today, it's more of a hangout on the corner of Fields and Santos Street. Their cuisine is not the number one in town, but their snacks like Fried Potatoes and French Fries are delicious and prices are ok.

Rhapsody Bar

Rhapsody Bar Angeles City
While it's located on Santos Street, it's not a classic Blowroad bar, but more one of the glamor bars from Fields Avenue. The manager of this bar has been involved in many charity events giving underprivileged kids and people a new perspective and management has always been active in providing eduction to their staff about STDs. As for party people it's a place that is miss or hit. Some days it's hot, other days it's like a lake with dead fish.

Shadows Bar

Popular hangout for frugal Johns and late night punters. Minibar Shadows is open 24 hours and positioned close to the Wild Orchid Resort and next to Honky Tonk and Black Pearl bars. The venue was recently renovated. It's a small bar with public area to meet local sex workers. The back of the building hosts 3 or 4 rooms for short time activities where visitors can spend time with their local talent. Drinks for customers and ladies are the cheapest in town, hardly more expensive than in a grocery store. Rooms are very small and basic, very dark and fixed electric ventilators with semi privacy. You need to be a hard-balled monger to take one of the girls to a room for around 700 Piso short time (up to 3 hours). But a lot of guys go here for the cheap price. Once I asked a popular and attractive Filipina sex worker from Shadows bar about her average number of customers per day and she answered: 4. Bring your own condoms to practice safe sex.

Crystal Palace
Entrance of Crystal Palace bar on Real Street at night
Real Street's biggest bar is just a stone throw away from A. Santos. It's one of the most glamorous bars of Angeles City's tourist district with up 300 dancers on 2 stages. Daily performances of spotlight dancers who are called 'Princesses' can be seen every hour and shooting balloons on stage is great fun. Cristal Palace offers barfines of up to 3000 Peso for spotlight girls with green numbers, and 1500/2000 for regular girls.
