Hope in Heaven Film

Hope in Heaven Bar
Hope in Heaven, by filmmaker Meredith Ralston, examines the country's sex trade and the young women it traps.
Film makers tend to present drama. They did a fine job when creating a documentary about prostitutes from the old Heaven Bar on Blowroad. Narrated by Hollywood-Star Kiefer Sutherland and presented by an Canadian ex-prostitute Hope in Heaven shows horrible sanitary conditions from 2007 and 2008 in this establishment and raises awareness of many problems. While in theory they are building a case that is worth fighting for, they omit many facts that would destroy their drama. Filipino poverty is all over the country. It does not affect prostitutes from Blowroad, only. Many Filipinos living and working as construction workers or maids face similar conditions. It's really sad. Most of all they fail to compare the conditions of prostitutes working in bars for foreigners and those who work on the other side of the bridge inside 'the area', a red-light district where prostitutes serve locals for far lower rates every day in even worse conditions.
